USAF BBJ visits Rotorua

The United States Air Force Boeing 737-7DM (C-40C) 05-0730 flew from Whenuapai to Rotorua International Airport on the morning of 12 August as "SPAR 29".  After severals hours on the ground at the central North Island airport 05-0730 departed for Sydney.

Its visit to the regional airport caused a brief stir among the local media with its presence quickly known to a wide audience.  Much guessing was made as to its reason for visiting however truth overcame fantasy and it was deployed merely to transport a group of US congress representatives to the region on an environmental tour.

The last US military VIP aircraft to visit a regional airport was, if I recall correctly, United States Navy Gulfstream 5 166375 with this nondescript jet arriving at Taupo on 03 April 2009 from Whenuapai and departing for Wellington two days later.
