New Airline for the Kingdom of Tonga

Local media in Tonga report that Air Chathams are expected to start services in their own right within the Kingdom of Tonga from April this year. This follows confirmation that Peau Air Vavau surrendered their operator's certificate last month. Peau Air Vavau has not operated since November 2006 following the riots that caused mayhem in the islands Capital. Their only aircraft, ex Origin Pacific Jetstream 41 A3-XRH (ex ZK-JSM) was positioned to Auckland in the early hours of 17Nov06 and remained at Ardmore until 17Feb07 when it returned to Tonga with the idea that it would re-enter service, however this was obviously not to be. Interestingly the media report indicates that the aircraft did not return to Tonga!

Air Chatham's is of course not new to Tonga. The media report says it has been operating a 16 seater aircraft (Convair combi ZK-CIE perhaps).

So, this begs the question what is the status of A3-XRH..............
