Last Scheduled International Flight for Hamilton (NZHN)

Following Virgin Australia’s announcement in mid August this year, the airline operated its final services through Hamilton 26 October with Boeing 737-800 ZK-PBD arriving in the early hours of Saturday morning from Brisbane as DJ86 and departing again a few hours later as DJ85 back to Brisbane.

International services at Hamilton started with Kiwi International in 1994 who initially conducted a series of charter services and from April 1995 scheduled operations ran through until September 1996.

K2000 operated Trans-Tasman flights from Hamilton in December 1999 to January 2000.

Freedom Air International provided Trans-Tasman and Pacific Island flights from December 1995 until April 2008 when parent company Air New Zealand took over after Freedom Air was wound up.  The Air New Zealand services concluded in April 2009 in favour of flights through Rotorua.

Pacific Blue, later to be branded Virgin Australia, began services on 1 September 2009 initially with three flights a week to Sydney and four per week to Brisbane but this was quickly scaled back and only Brisbane was serviced.  The first flight was conducted by Boeing 737-800 ZK-PBJ.
