ZK-NGP first flew on 23 February 1998 and was delivered to Air Malta as 9H-ADH on 12 March 1998. It was sub leased to Azzurra Air on two occasions before exiting the Air Malta fleet in 2008 destined for Air New Zealand.
On 16 March 2008, under its ZK marks and flown by Southern Cross as SXI803, the 737 departed Malta for Al Ain and the next day continued onto Nagpur and Jakarta/Halim. It then flew onto Cairns and Christchurch arriving on 19 March where it underwent induction maintenance prior to its first revenue service for the airline on 07 April as NZ500 to Auckland.
ZK-NGP took part in a pseudo formation flight of four Boeing 737's from Auckland to Christchurch on 11 October 2008 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the type's entry to service.
Her final day of flying activity was 10 August with a trip from Auckland to Christchurch as NZ501 and then two Wellington returns as NZ352/353 and NZ358/359 respectively.
