Holiday Snaps - Chicago/Midway to LAX

As our road trip wound down it was time to make our way westward via a one month old Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 featuring the rather distinctive scimitar winglets.  The flight afforded great views of Chicago as we climbed out and cruised across in clear skies to LAX all the while dodging around some rather spectacular summer cloud buildups around Colorado.  Very impressive!

The great wall that now surrounds Midway. It was erected after a runway overrun in winter 2005.

In addition to the concrete wall around the airport it is also equipped with EMAS (Engineered Materials Arresting System)

Spied this Frontier Airlines Airbus sprinting in the opposite direction.

Just part of a huge thunderstorm system over Colorado.

Proud Bird restaurant at LAX.  Thought it had closed but in late 2013 it was given a new lease of life and is set to remain open - for now!

Fedex birds await their nightly feed of freight at LAX

Desperation shots of a couple of jets out of the window of our Southwest 737-800.
