Lyden Air Cargo's Lockheed L382G (L100-30) Hercules N405LC has concluded its Christchurch deployment with a departure on the afternoon of 04 December 2018 for Pago Pago on its return to North America as LYC405.
The C130 had arrived in Christchurch on 27 October 2018 and since then conducted 8 supply trips to Antarctica.
Using the callsign LYC900 for each trip south, the Hercules flew to the Italian base of Terra Nova on 30 October, 01, 07, 14, and 27 November. An attempt to head south on the 21st was terminated before clearing NZ airspace and it returned to Christchurch. It conducted round trips to Phoenix Field 01 and 03 December.
Alaskan based Lynden Air Cargo has this year been contracted to provide airlift capacity for the Italian Antarctic programme replaceing the long standing arrangement where a Safair Hercules from South Africa has been deployed.

Lockheed L382G (L100-30) Hercules N405LC touched down in Christchurch 27 October 2018 at the conclusion of its delivery flight from Anchorage with it staging via Kahului/Maui, Majuro and Nadi.
This particular example has been a regular sight in Australia where it has over recent summers been deployed on fire fighting duties contracted to Coulson Aviation - so this will be quite the contrast in summer taskings!
