Earthrounder Departs - updated

Earthrounder Heinz Peier and his trusty sports plane Swearingen SX-300 N54JX have embarked on the long journey home to Florida from New Zealand. Heinz arrived Auckland 16 August 2014 and gravitated around the country initially by motorhome and his snazzy collapsable mountainbike before flying the SX-300 to Wanaka where it was hangared with Mustang Flights Wanaka along side P51 Mustang ZK-SAS "Dove of Peace".

The two aircraft conducted some air to air flying in recent days before N54JX departed Wanaka for Omaka 08 March and onto Ardmore the following day. The SX-300 has had a ferry tank installed and on speaking with Heinz he was awaiting the delivery of a new Spidertrack GPS tracker system to be installed to provide better coverage for his anticipated route which he hopes will take him via PNG to Hong Kong, Japan, and then across Alaska and Canada. The Spidertrack unit has a high degree of reliability above/below extreme latitudes providing a reporting system to ground stations. The route outlined above is subject to regulatory approval and if clearances are unavailable for portions of the journey he may well end up departing via the Pacific route, hence installation of the ferry tank.

N54JX has since travelled north to Kerikeri, a convenient launching point with customs available for light aircraft departures and from there flew to Norfolk Island 12 March.
