RAAF Poseidon Arrives and Departs

A47-001 departed Auckland 14 November destined for Avalon, south of Melbourne, as ASY211. The next day it was planned to be accompanied by a RAAF P3 Orion for the journey to Canberra however seems this is now expected to take place 16 November.

The Royal Australian Air Force's first Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft touched down in Auckland late afternoon 12 November on the second to last leg of its delivery flight to Australia.

A47-001 is a Boeing 737-8FV, designated P-8A, and is the first of 15 Poseidons ordered under Project Air 7000 2B. With construction number 62288, A47-001 initially carried the Boeing test registration N940DS and conducted its first flight on May 6th 2016 departing from the manufacturer's Renton facility for Boeing Field.

The Poseidon was handed over to the RAAF in a ceremony at Boeing Field in late September.

The delivery flight has been allocated callsign "AUSY211" and departed from Tinker AFB, OK for Hickham/Honolulu 09 November (local date) before the direct flight to Auckland. The jet is planned to fly to the Australian capital, Canberra, on 15 November.

Thank you to Colin Hunter for braving the testing elements of cold wind and pesky showers to catch A47-001 arriving.
