Air New Zealand Widebody Fleet

The introduction of the Boeing 777-300 to operate NZ2/1 Auckland-Los Angeles-London return has meant a number of Boeing 747-400 aircraft are now 'spare' at Auckland awaiting retirement.  None of the current fleet (ZK-NBT, NBU, NBV, NBW, SUH, SUJ) has been retired, SUJ is due to bow out in May.  The -400's will still periodically cross the Tasman to Melbourne and all Air NZ services to San Francisco and from 20 June flights to Vancouver will be operated by B747-400's.   It appears the plan to operate the type on a regular basis to Tokyo has been revised as a consequence of the natural disasters in both Japan and Christchurch.

Parking at Auckland is at a premium, especially during daylight hours with aircraft laying over between long haul trips.
