ATR movements - Updated 27 June 2019

Air Caledonie ATR72-600 F-OZKN made its way from Noumea/La Tontouta direct to Nelson 25 June 2019 as TPC7202.

Virgin Australia ATR72-600 VH-FVZ departed Nelson 18 April 2019 for Melbourne. It had arrived from Canberra back on 25 February 2019.

Virgin Australia ATR72-600 VH-FVR departed Nelson 22 November 2018 for Canberra as VOZ9947.

Virgin Australia ATR72-600 VH-FVY arrived in Nelson 23 November 2018 from Canberra as VOZ9948.

Virgin Australia ATR72-500 VH-FVH concluded its long-term storage in Nelson 16 October and flew a test flight in the afternoon before departing as "HT01" direct to Brisbane. The aircraft, in full Virgin livery, has been purchased by Hevilift http://www.heviliftgroup.com/fleet.html and it flew onto Cairns 17 October.

VH-FVH has been parked at Nelson since 16 July 2017.

Virgin Australia ATR72-600 VH-FVQ departed Nelson for Melbourne 09 October.

Mt Cook Airline ATR72-500 ZK-MCB conducted a Christchurch-Christchurch flight 09 October.
It was retired from service mid July 2018.

Air Caledonie ATR72-600 F-OZIP departed Nelson 17 July for Noumea as TPC7201.

Fiji Link sole ATR42-600 DQ-FJY arrived at Nelson after dark 07 August 2018 from Nadi via enroute diversion through Auckland for fuel as "LinkFiji 2001".

Air Caledonie ATR72-600 F-OZIP arrived at Nelson from Magenta and Noumea as TPC7202 on the afternoon of 26 June 2018.

Fiji Link ATR72-600 DQ-FJX conducted a quick circuit at Nelson 27 June 2018 before embarking on a direct flight to Nadi the same afternoon as FJA2004.

Virgin Australia ATR72-600 VH-FVP arrived at Nelson direct from Canberra 19 March 2018 as VOZ9944. It is understood the aeroplane is in New Zealand for a period of storage and maintenance.

Fiji Link ATR72-600 DQ-FJZ has concluded its visit with Air New Zealand Regional Maintenance and it departed Nelson mid morning 01 March 2018 heading directly home to Nadi as FJA2003.

Two noteworthy foreign ATR movements were conducted at Nelson 07 February 2018. First up was a local flight with Virgin Australia ATR72-500 VH-FVM with this machine flying to the west of Nelson before returning for a circuit as VOZ9900. It then departed early afternoon the same day destined for Brisbane as VOZ9943. 

VH-FVM arrived at Nelson back on 13 September 2017 and has been in storage pending disposal following the type's withdrawal from service in Australia.

The second movement marked the first visit to New Zealand by a Fiji Link ATR72 when -600 series DQ-FJZ arrived into Nelson direct from Nadi as FJA2001. The aircraft is in Nelson for attention with Air New Zealand Regional Maintenance.

ATR Visitors to Nelson

As Virgin Australia rejigs its regional domestic network in Australia, the airline has withdrawn the ATR72 series 500 turboprop from service, instead opting for an arrangement through Alliance Airlines to provide capacity with Fokker 70/100's on short haul sectors around Queensland.

Air New Zealand Regional Maintenance Nelson division is currently home to two of the now retired Virgin ATR72-500 aircraft following the arrival of VH-FVH MSN954 from Brisbane as VOZ9948 on 16 June 2017 followed by VH-FVL MSN974 on 18 July 2017, also as VOZ9948.

VH-FVH was delivered to Brisbane 18 August 2011 as SXI1131 while VH-FVL arrived in Perth on 17 October 2011 as SXI1147 before flying direct to Brisbane the following day as VOZ082S. 

VH-FVH parked at Nelson last week. 
In addition to the two Virgin ATR's, Air Caledonie ATR72-212A (500) 
F-OIPS arrived in Nelson back on 20 June 2017 from Noumea as TPC7202.

Stored Virgins at Nelson

The four Virgin Australia ATR72-500's stored at Nelson have taken up a new location on the airport with a make shift parking area constructed south of the main terminal/ramp area as depicted in the accompanying Google Earth image. Each aircraft now has protective wrap over them however as can be seen from the accompanying photos it seems a little more is needed on some than others.

Another Virgin Arrival


Virgin Australia's recently withdrawn from service ATR72-500 VH-FVM MSN 979 touched down at Nelson mid afternoon 11 September after a direct flight from Brisbane as VOZ9948. 

VH-FVM, christened "Woolamai Beach" first flew in November 2011 as F-WWEX and was delivered to Perth by Southern Cross International as SXI1160 on 02 December. It was to then very from Perth to Brisbane 07 December as VOZ9080 before entering service a couple of days later.

Presumably FVM will join VH-FVH and VH-FVL currently in open air storage at Nelson pending sale.

But Wait - there's more!

Yet another Virgin Australia retired ATR72-500 has turned up at Nelson, this time VH-FVU "Double Island Point". It arrived direct from Melbourne 21 September as VOZ9948 joining VH-FVH, FVL and FVM.
