Air New Zealand's recently introduced 214 seat Airbus A321NEO's have for now only been scheduled on short-haul regional services operating from/to Auckland and select main-trunk domestic flights.
Queenstown International Airport has become a central hub for airline jet operations as the region rides the influx of domestic and overseas tourists.
However as a precursor of things to come, the airline deployed ZK-NNA to Queenstown 06 March 2019 on an aircraft/airport route proving exercise. The jet made its way south from Auckland and conducted two or three approaches at Queenstown before landing. After three hours on the ground for staff familiarization the NEO headed back to Auckland.
