Gisborne based Kiwi Air operated Reims Cessna F406 Twin Caravan ZK-XLF was observed conducting an interesting over water flight on the afternoon of 25 October 2018. Embarking from Dunedin, the turbine twin headed east/southeast across the South Pacific Ocean in the direction of the remote, uninhabitated Bounty Islands reaching some 400nm from Dunedin before making a u-turn and heading back to its point of origin. It then flew from Dunedin to Hamilton on the 26th.
The survey equipped aeroplane's deployment may have been in conjunction with the Niwa research vessel RV Tangaroa.
