First New Zealand visit for Airbus MRTT

The first visit to New Zealand by an Airbus air to air refuelling tanker took place on 12 March with the arrival at Auckland of Airbus A330-203MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) A39-002 of 33 squadron Royal Australian Air Force.  

The heavily modified Airbus A330, designated KC30A,  arrived from its RAAF Amberley base as "Ausy 451" and touched down shortly after 1300.  Within Australian airspace the type uses the callsign "Dragon".

The Airbus tanker introduction to the RAAF inventory has been somewhat protracted with initial orders made in 2005 for a planned entry to service by 2008 and completed by 2010 for the 5 aircraft however deliveries slipped by two years and A39-002 was delivered on 18 June 2011 with offical handover three days later.
