Naval Aviation at Ohakea

Considering the size of the waters governed and patrolled by New Zealand, its suprising that this massive area is overseen by just 6 Lockheed P3 Orions and 5 SH2G Seasprites, all station at RNZAF Whenuapai.

NZ4201, recently released from its life extension programme, arrived on 30 March and was on static display during the show while NZ4202 made its way down to Ohakea on air show day to conduct its display which included a handling exercise followed by a simulated search and rescue routine involving a recreational fishing boat towed down the runway followed by a package drop to the vessel and then concluded with the arrival of Seasprite 03 to winch the boatie to safety.
