This Day Two Years Ago

Royal Canadian Air Force Globemaster III 177702 had arrived at Auckland from Perth on 02 May 2009 as CFC4088 and on 04 May 2009 it made the short flight to Whenuapai where it uplifted Curtiss P40 Kittyhawk ZK-VWC ex rebuild and on delivery to VictoryWings of Canada.  The P40 made its first flight on 23 April 2009 from Ardmore after 65 years out of the air and was then disassembled for road transport to Whenuapai.

The C17 had been on deployment in the Middle East and was re-routed via NZ to uplift the P40.  On its arrival back in Canada, the military heirachy came under close scrutiny for the somewhat out of the way flight to NZ for the sole purpose of collecting this gem!
